<This is my 29th year of teaching, with 28 of those being in 6th grade.  I was at Fairview for 26 years and am thrilled to be here at the Middle School continuing with 6th grade.  I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I received a B.S. degree in Environmental Health, and later returned to get my teaching  certification.   Originally, I came from Western Pennsylvania, but moved here in 1990, with my husband and our two children, to find jobs.  My children are now grown and moved out, so our household consists of my husband, me, and our dog, Harley.  Things I enjoy doing are traveling (when I get the chance), reading (mostly historical mysteries), hiking, and gardening.  I am interested in nature study, and most things related to science.

This year we will be studying World Geography, with an emphasis on physical geography, up until our winter break.  When we come back in January, we will switch to studying Earth Science (rocks and minerals, energy, continental drift, Earth's fresh water systems, climate, human effects on the environmnent) for the remainder of the year.  We will also learn about the scientific method, with all 6th graders being required to do a science fair project.>

We are finishing up our studies of the Americas and will then head across the ocean to Europe.  From there we will travel to Asia and then to Africa.  Our studies of the world will end up down under with Australia and New Zealand.
Over the winter break, students should begin thinking about and exploring ideas for their science fair projects.  All 6th grade students are required to do a project.  They may do one individually or with a partner from their same team.  Students wishing to work with a partner must have permission from each set of parents giving their approval for their child to work with that partner.  Keep your eyes open for a permission letter towards the end of December.  Work on the project will begin when we come back to school in January.
