Phone: 717-762-1191 ext. 3138

For marking period 2, students will be focusing on: character motivation, character development, essential elements of a story, critical moments and how they impact us, as well as vocabulary use and application, and several literary devices.
We began the marking period by discussion what a critical moment can look like and how it can impact us/the character. Gaten Matarazzo (star of Stranger Things), and learned of his critical moment of deciding to not allow his cleidocranal dysplasia have a negative impact on his life.
Our class novel, this marking period, is Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. It is the story of a fifteen year old boy, Cole Matthews, who is banished to a remote Alaskan island for the brutal attack on one of his classmates. It is a story centered around the importance of life, self-healing, forgiveness, respect, and taking responsibility.
Our writing unit, for this marking period, will focus on the essential elements of a creative narrative; what each element looks like and how it impacts the story. We will be ending the writing unit and marking period with a TDA based on an informational article that the students will "cold read".

A bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, class of 2010. While there I participated in all manners of musical and literary performance; all school production, drama performances, choir and band. Performing was a great part of school and is still a joy for me today.
I am the third generation of teachers in my family, all ranging from different ages and emphasis'.
My mother taught me that through reading anybody could become anything. That books were a tool that would help us all in our own way. Books became magical to me as a child, becoming a doorway to new ways of seeing the world. It was in seventh grade that I had one of the most important conversations with my mother, what I wanted to be when I grew up. We made a list of my passions; English class, books, writing, poetry, teaching, and simply being around kids. It was quickly obvious to us that teaching was my future career. That conviction has been with me since then and has never wavered.
